Governor Details

Elizabeth Combes

Elizabeth is our Chair of Governors and has been a Governor at Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy since 1988, she was involved in Governance with another local school for two years preceding this.  Her roles include Chair of the Local Governing body, Chair of the Staffing Committee, Chair of the Enrichment Committee, along with serving on various other Committees and Working Groups.  Elizabeth is also one of our dedicated Safeguarding Governors.  Elizabeth previously worked in the Charitable Sector and has many links with organisations which support the more vulnerable students and their families.  Elizabeth also has links with organisations working to improve standards in schools.

 

Bernard Hindes

Bernard has been a Governor at Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy since 2011 and has been an OAT Governor since October 2013.  His roles include Vice Chair of the Local Governing body, Vice Chair of the Staffing Committee, and he also serves on various other Committees and Working Groups.  Bernard also works closely with the Academy in his guise as a Rotarian, supporting our Interact students.  Bernard served as a Magistrate for 31 years and is skilled in project management.

 

James (Jim) Manning

Jim has been a Governor at Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy since 1994 and an OAT Governor since the transfer to Academy in October 2013.  His roles include Chair of the Health & Safety Committee, Chair of the Finance and General Purposes Committee, and he also serves on various other Committees and Working Groups.  Jim had an extensive working history within Local Government finally setting up and heading the Community Safety Unit of Ipswich Borough Council.  He has also held Trustee roles in local Charities for over twenty years and is currently with Whitton Youth Partnership which he helped establish and which runs youth projects in the area.

 

Sandra Stevens

Sandra has been a Governor at Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy since the OAT conversion in October 2013.  Her roles include serving on the Local Governing body and Enrichment Committee.  Sandra is also a dedicated Safeguarding and SEND Governor.  Sandra’s employment background was in the NHS, firstly as a researcher and later as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist.  On behalf of the NHS Sandra worked as an assessor and expert witness in the Family Court, following NHS retirement she continued with this work, specialising in assessment of parenting, children in care and adoption. 

 

Wesley Henderson

Wesley has been a Governor at Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy since the OAT conversion in October 2013.  His roles include serving on the Local Governing body, serving on the Finance & General Purposes Committee, serving on the Enrichment Committee and serving on the Health & Safety Committee.  Wesley currently works as a building services consultant for a multidisciplinary practice.  One of the fields he specialises in is educational establishments, which has brought him full circle as he used to attend Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy many years ago. 

 

Peter Murray

Peter joined us as a Governor at Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy after the conversion to academy status in October 2013.  His roles include serving on the Local Governing Body and Enrichment Committee.  He is the founder member of the Association of Charitable Foundations and founder Chair of Ormiston Academies Trust.

 

Kathryn Huggins

Kathryn is one of our staff Governors and has been since 2013.  Her roles include serving on the Local Governing Body and the Enrichment Committee.  Kathryn has a keen interest in enrichment within the Academy and is active in managing the Brilliant Club.

 

Tracey Barrow

Tracey joined us as a staff Governor at Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy in September 2017. 

Her roles include serving on the Local Governing Body.  Tracey has worked for the Academy since 2008 and manages a team of administrators.  Tracey comes from an administration focused, school based background.  Tracey is also a parent at the Academy and is very interested in becoming further involved in the processes that support the institution

 

Louise Shute

Louise joined us as a Governor at Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy after the conversion to academy status in October 2013.  Her roles include serving on the Local Governing Body and Enrichment Committee.  Louise is part of our Ormiston Families Trust and is heavily invested in increasing the life chances of young people through ensuring quality of opportunities and support available to them.
